Privacy Policy

The International Association of Korean Lawyers (“IAKL”) establishes and implements this Privacy Policy according to Article 30 of the Personal Information Protection Act, to inform you of our policies and procedures regarding the collection, usage, and disclosure of personal information that we receive from the Members of our website.

Article 1 (Purpose of Processing Personal Information)
IAKL processes certain personally identifiable information (“personal information”) for the following purposes, and such personal information is not used for any other purposes:

1. Initial Registration and Administration of Membership Service
IAKL collects personal information upon initial registration for purposes that include verifying the User’s intention to join the membership, verifying personal identity for the use of membership-based services, membership maintenance, and sending notices.

2. Member Search Service
Member search is made available to those who hold full membership to strengthen the network among Korean lawyers.

3. Handling of Grievances
IAKL processes personal information for purposes that include verifying the identity of the Member, identifying the reported problem, contacting the Member for the purpose of fact-finding, and delivering the final result.

Article 2 (Period of Retention and Use of Personal Information)
① IAKL processes and retains personal information for the period prescribed by the law or for the period agreed to by the Member at the time of initial registration.
② Personal information is retained and processed by IAKL until the Member terminates the membership account.

Article 3 (Providing Personal Information to Third Parties)
IAKL processes personal information of the Member within the scope of Article1 and does not go beyond that scope without the prior consent of the Member, except when it is demanded by provisions of legislation such as Article 17 of the Personal Information Protection Act.

Article 4 (Entrusting Personal Information)
IAKL processes and manages personal information internally and does not entrust such information to other organizations. If any changes are made, IAKL will inform you through this policy without any delay.

Article 5 (Changing or Deleting Your Information)
① The Member may view or revise his/her personal information any time at ‘My Page,’ and may request IAKL to delete or stop the processing of personal information. If you wish to delete or stop the processing of your personal information, contact the person in charge of personal information protection by phone or email.
② The Member shall not infringe upon the privacy and personal information of other members in violation of the Personal Information Protection Act and other relevant laws.

Article 6 (Personal Information Collected by IAKL)
IAKL collects the following personal information:

1. Registration and Maintenance of Membership
- Required Information : ID, password, name, date of birth, country of license, organization, position, practice area, contact number, email, address, past conference registration, interest areas
- Optional Information : JRTI class (Korean attorneys only), law school class (Korean attorneys only), education, photo, fax number

2. The following information may be automatically created and collected while internet services are used: IP address, cookies, MAC address, time of visit, service use records, and delinquent use records.

Article 7 (Secure Destruction of Personal Information)
The Member’s personal information is destroyed without delay once the purpose of collection and use of personal information has been accomplished. The procedure and method of destruction are as follows:

1. Procedure
IAKL selects the personal information in which the reason for destruction has incurred, and destroys the personal information upon gaining approval of the person in charge of personal information protection.

2. Method
Personal information saved in electronic file form shall be erased using technology that does not allow recovery of records.

Article 8 (Measures for Protecting Personal Information)
IAKL is very concerned with safeguarding your information and takes the administrative, technological, and physical security measures as required by the Personal Information Protection Act, as well as any other necessary measures needed for protecting your information.

Article 10 (Revision of Privacy Policy)
Any addition, deletion or modification of this document shall be notified through ‘Notice’ section of the website at least 7 days prior to such revision taking effect. However, if significant changes are made to Member rights, including changes to collection and use of personal information and disclosure of the information to third parties, you will be notified at least 30 days prior to intended changes.
